Overview
Pokimane Accidental Pornhub Stream Controversy refers to an incident in which Twitch streamer Pokimane accidentally opened a link to a Pornhub video while on stream. The incident led to discussions about whether Twitch should punish Pokimane for the accident, as well as exploitable edits of the clip.
Background
On May 19th, 2020, Pokimane was streaming when she clicked a link that came with a donation to her channel, only to discover the link was to a Pornhub video after she opened it (censored screenshot shown below).[1]
After the incident, she said she had a moderated Google document of links that have been sent by fans of her to watch. She theorized that someone must have changed one of the links in the document.
Developments
The incident led to a discussion about what punishment, if any, Pokimane should receive from Twitch, considering the site's recent implementation of a "Safety Advisory Council."[2] Scarce argued, "If pokimane doesn't get banned, then no one on twitch should get banned for accidentally showing nudity. I see streamers getting banned weekly for this though. Why is there such a blatant double standard? Just make it so streamers don't get banned if it's clearly an accident."[3] User @Right_my_soul[4] posted a picture of Daredevil, implying Twitch will have double standards and not ban Pokimane due to her popularity on the platform (shown below, right).
Others made exploitable edits of the clip, replacing the Pornhub window with other, more humorous clips. For example, Dolan Dark posted a parody clip using the Croes Brothers that gained over 2,000 retweets and 28,000 likes (shown below, top). User @Twomad posted a parody that gained over 6,000 retweets and 62,000 likes (shown below, bottom).
