Good morning funk refers to a series of ironic memes depicting cute ‘good morning/good night’ message videos and using explicit Brazilian funk songs as the soundtrack. The trend started in September 2020 on Instagram and then gained popularity on TikTok in 2022 in Brazil with animated videos and image macros.

Origin

One of the first posts known about the cute messages with funk songs was posted on Instagram on September 21st, 2020, by @videosdebomdiacomfunk^[1]. The static video shows a ‘Good morning’ message that says “You know that heartfelt good morning? I came here to wish you that!”. Accompanying the message is the explicit funk song ‘Senta em Mim Xerecão’,^[2] by Mc Magrinho.

The trend moved to TikTok in 2021. The ironic meme account @bomdiafunk^[3] shared on August 21st, 2021 a static image of a pink flower alongside a good morning text. The motivational quote on the post read “be a positive person and you will be much happier” as a heavy funk beat played as a soundtrack.

On July 30th, 2022, a good night message post went viral on TikTok, reaching 1 million views in six days. The video shows a static image of a dog with glittery ‘good night’ text and the song ‘COCOTA FEIA PRA CAR4LH0’^[4] by MC G3.
