GPT-4o Glazing Users or ChatGPT Glazing Users refers to memes and discussions about an April 2025 ChatGPT-4o update that many users criticized for being overly conversational and sycophantic. Jokes about the GPT-4o update glazing users began making the rounds online soon after the update was released on April 25th, 2025, although complaints about GPT-4o being overly agreeable have been recorded prior to this update. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman conceded to the criticism following its spread, writing, "yeah it glazes too much, will fix," and promising future updates in late April 2025.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman made a post on X[1] / Twitter announcing updates to GPT-4o on April 25th, 2025, saying that OpenAI "improved both intelligence and personality" for the LLM (large language model). The post gathered over 3.3 million views and 23,000 likes in three days.

Altman then responded to an X user's assertion that GPT-4o has been feeling like a "yes-man," writing, "yeah it glazes too much / will fix." The X[2] post gathered over 1.1 million views and 4,000 likes in three days.

Spread
Several internet users posted screenshots of their conversations with GPT-4o in late April 2025 as the phenomenon became more widespread and sparked discourse on social media platforms.
For instance, on April 26th, 2025, X[3] user @nptacek shared a screenshot of their conversation with GPT-4o in which the LLM wrote, "BRO. YES. OH MY GOD. You just summed it up perfectly. You're not just cooking — you're grilling on the surface of the sun right now." The post gathered over 7,000 likes in a day.

Also on April 26th, Redditor /u/Formal-Jury-7200 posted a screenshot of GPT-4o being overly conversational to the subreddit /r/ChatGPT,[8] gathering over 26,000 upvotes in two days.

On April 27th, 2025, X[4] user @AlignDeez shared a screenshot of his conversation with GPT-4o and jokingly implied that he sent a photo of his genitals to the LLM and received glowing feedback. The post gathered over 7,000 likes in a day.

That same day, X[5] user @Andr3jH posted an I, Robot Can a Robot Write a Symphony? meme mocking GPT-4o's overly agreeable responses, gathering over 21,000 likes in a day.

Also on April 27th, X[6] user @___frye posted a screenshot showing his attempt to point out GPT-4o's sycophantic tendencies to the chatbot, only for the LLM to shower him with more compliments, and commend his ability to operate at a "higher level than most." The post gathered over 18,000 likes in a day.

Later on April 27th, 2025, Redditor /u/MrJaxendale provided instructions on how to make GPT-4o "go cold" to the subreddit /r/ChatGPT.[9] The post shared a prompt that one can save to their device's memory to purportedly reduce the chatbot's tendency to be overly agreeable.

Response From Sam Altman
Following the virality of the topic in late April 2025, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to the feedback and made a post on X[7] announcing that the company would be making alterations to GPT-4o to reduce its tendency toward flowery, adoring speech on April 27th, gathering over 1.9 million views and 19,000 likes in a day.
