Growing Old Edits refers to a series of memes set to the Up soundtrack composition "Married Life" by in which various meme-famous characters are shown growing old and disappearing. Usually executed via FaceApp smile and age filters, the trend originated on Twitter in mid-August 2019 and spread to Instagram in the following days.

Origin

On August 14th, 2019, Twitter user @TwashTheMan made an edit consisting of several edited Linus Selfie images, set to appear as if tech blogger Linus Sebastian aged and died, with the meme set to "Married Life" composition by Michael Giacchino from the Up soundtrack.[1] The edit received over 2,600 retweets and 8,600 likes in five days.

In the following days, the video was reposted by multiple notable Instagram pages, including posts by users nitro_if[2] and repostrandy.[3]

Starting on August 18th, 2019, multiple Instagram accounts posted similarly executed edits featuring meme-famous personalities and characters of popular shows, with notable examples posted by users succc.exe,[4] iwillstealallthedankmemes[5] and labrynth.mp3.[6]
