About

Harry Is Adjusting Great to America refers to a two-panel image macro series consisting of a screenshot of Meghan Markle on top along with the titular phrase and Prince Harry below with a punchline that typically mocks an aspect of American culture or a stereotype. The images are taken from Oprah's Prince Harry and Meghan Markle interview, and the series became popular on Reddit in early March 2021.

Origin

On March 9th, 2021, Redditor u/NorthernJoey uploaded a series of horizontal image macros to /r/MemeEconomy[1] featuring images of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry taken from the highly publicized interview by television personality Oprah, which aired on March 7th. Each image features the top text "Harry is adjusting great to America" under Markle, a line that is not actually spoken in the interview, and varying bottom text attributed to Harry, often a joke about him being confused regarding an aspect of American culture (examples shown below). The poster also provided a blank template in the last post slide. The post gained over 14,700 upvotes in a day.

Later that day, Redditor u/SpongeNoob24 uploaded a new version of the meme to /r/dankmemes,[2] replacing Harry's text with "What the fuck is an 'anime'?," garnering over 37,700 upvotes in under a day (shown below).

Spread

Over the course of the next two days, numerous variations of the meme were uploaded to /r/dankmemes and /r/memes, many gaining significant upvotes.

On March 10th, u/ManagerOfLove posted a meme to /r/memes[4] in which Harry is confused about the amount of Diet Coke Americans drink, garnering over 36,900 upvotes in under 10 hours (shown below, right).

Three hours later, u/thenribrat uploaded another version of the meme to /r/dankmemes[6] in which Harry is even fatter, garnering over 16,400 upvotes in six hours (shown below, right).
