About

Haruhikage (official title: 春日影) is a song featured in episodes 3 and 7 of the Japanese animated (anime) series BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!.

The meme refers to the quote なんで『春日影』やったの!? (romanized as Nande 'Haruhikage' yatta no!?) bursted out angrily by the character Soyo Nagasaki after her band's live performance of Haruhikage.

Song

Haruhikage is written by Asuka Oda and composed by Junpei Fujita. In the anime continuity, the lyrics were written by Tomori Takamatsu and composed by Sakiko Togawa.

The full version by MyGO!!!!! was released as the 8th track from their first studio album MEISEKIHA.

The full version by CRYCHIC is included as a bonus CD track of the 2nd half of BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!! Blu-Ray release in Japan.

Origin

Contains story spoilers from BanG Dream! It's MyGO!!!!!:

CRYCHIC first performed 'Haruhikage' and shortly after, its keyboardist Sakiko (Soyo Nagasaki 's close friend) unexpectedly announced her departure from the band and its members eventually disband.

Sometime after, Anon Chihaya, Raana Kaname and former CRYCHIC members Soyo, Tomori Takamatsu and Taki Shiina formed a new band.

In their first live together, Sakiko was among the audience; and when the newly formed band started performing Haruhikage, Sakiko stormed out the venue halfway through the song which caused Soyo to lose her usual calm demeanor (which turned out to be a facade) in an outburst after leaving the stage.

Meme

The delivery of Nande 'Haruhikage' yatta no!? in the show inspired many images, videos and comments either or both referencing the quote and poking fun of Soyo whenever Haruhikage is played, heard or even mentioned. Haruhikage is particularly popular in China's video hosting site Bilibili, where its clip from the anime featuring the song has over 2.8 million views.

The meme image typically uses the shot of her outburst which varies depending on the frame used.

Softmai released a video of a screen recording showing a stream of the animew's 7th episode on Twitch, where Soyo says the quote after midnight of New Year's Day 2024 on the computer (5:22).

田子元 uploaded a video of a crossover between Ryomen Sukuna from Jujutsu Kaisen and Soyo which garnered over 1.5m plays on Bilibili and almost 300k plays on YouTube.
