Limmy Waking Up is an image macro series based on a photograph of comedian Brian "Limmy" Limond shirtless in bed and pointing at himself.

Origin

On September 10th, 2014, Brian Limond, also known as Limmy, published the photo on Twitter ^[1] (shown below).

Spread

Three years later, on September 5th, 2017, Tumblr ^[2] user dongbearer posted an edited version of the image. Their variation has a purple deep-fried tint and a gun pointing at Limmy. The post received more than 3,200 notes in less than four years (shown below, left).

That day, Tumblr^[3] user borfuses posted the image of their Tumblr feed that shows the meme near another meme of a man holding a gun. The post received more than 230,000 notes in less than four years (shown below, center).

Three years later, the image went viral on Reddit following a post in /r/me_irl. ^[4] On October 21st, 2020, Redditor xSavageLlamax posted the image in response to a joke about NPCs (shown below, right). The post received more than 84,000 points (95% upvoted) and 420 comments in less than

On January 10th, 2021, Twitter^[5] user @skexchs tweeted the image with the caption, "hamsters when u lift their little igloo." The tweet received more than 243,000 likes 28,000 retweets in less than one month (shown below).
