About

He Don't Miss is an internet catchphrase used to praise someone for consistently creating high-quality content. It is commonly used to praise musicians and more humorously used to praise writers and posters on social media. It is commonly associated with a still image of SpongeBob SquarePants screaming.

Origin

While it's unclear where the phrase started, it began gaining traction in late 2019 and early 2020. On December 20th, 2019, Twitter^[1] user @homegirlheav used the phrase to describe rapper Future (shown below).

On January 17th, 2020, Twitter^[2] user @reactjpg posted an image of SpongeBob shouting the line (shown below).

Spread

Over the following year, the phrase has been used on social media to praise various people for their high-quality and consistent content. On May 2nd, 2020, Redditor Jewsantacreatefridge posted a Fairly Oddparents variation in /r/LilUziVert^[3] in praise of rapper Lil Uzi Vert (shown below, left). On April 12th, Redditor MrPoliwag posted a My Hero Academia variation on /r/BokuNoMetaAcademia,^[4] gaining over 140 points (shown below, right).

Just Miss Once

As "He Don't Miss" became more popular, the variation "Just Miss Once" emerged, particularly in response to posters that often put out high-quality content as a way of joking that the content was overwhelming. For example, on December 6th, 2020, Twitter^[5] user @yungkitty404 posted it in response to Chinese-state media affiliate Chen Weihua making fun of Rudy Giuliani, gaining over 400 retweets and 4,000 likes (shown below, left). On September 19th, 2020, user @ShinobiTempest^[6] posted a Death Grips reaction with the phrase, gaining over 150 likes (shown below, right).
