He Hit My Car And Trying To Leave or He Hit My Car on the Highway and He's Tryna Leave refers to a viral video of a mans reaction to his vehicle being hit while driving on a highway, which would become popularized on TikTok in 2023, particually being present in shitposts.

Origins

On July 1st, 2020 X user @DestonToBeGreat would post a video entitled "Broooo look at this man TRY TO DO A HIT AND RUN!!!! THIS IS NOT COOL I JUST GOT THIS WHIP"[1]. appearing to show Deston driving in the middle of the highway, screaming that his car had been hit and that the person responsible was trying to flee the scene, and appears to repeat the same thing generally the entire video. He is seen swerving and speeding trying to catch up to the vehicle until the person responsible pulls over on the road, and proceeds to apologize to the driver, as he continues to yell at him for 'fleeing' and records damage on both cars. The collision happened in Statesville, North Carolina near an exit for Interstate 85 from Interstate 77 north.[2]

Spread

Although there is not exactly a single person who caused the uproar in the video since it bounced back in forth over a few years, mid 2023 saw a peak of the meme, including variations of it. One of the most viral videos of the meme refers to a video showing a man in a Lamborghini Urus chasing down someone driving a Hellcat Owner, the video includes only the audio of the original video, leading some to believe that this more viral one is the original, but is not. Sense then, many different videos have been added along with the video, including GTA5 and Fortnite clips. [3]
