In 2017, Justin Tokke sent a letter to the Canadian Heraldic Authority to complain about incorrect engraving on their recently debuted coat of arms for Julie Payette.

The Deputy Chief Herald of Canada, Bruce Patterson, wrote a letter back to Tokke indicating that they were not going to change the coat of arms despite the error. In it was included the phrase "heraldry sometimes does depart from precise depictions in this way." It became a meme on Music Engraving Tips, and spread to other music notation and music theory groups on Facebook.
