Hero Worship is Unhealthy, sometimes translated as Pemujaan Berlebihan Tidak Sehat, refers to a catchphrase said by Patrick Star from Spongebob Squarepants which saw use in exploitable image macros in which users posted about characters they liked.
Origin
On April 14th, 2001, the SpongeBob SquarePants episode titled "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic" first aired. At the end of episode, Patrick reminds Spongebob to not worship Kevin C. Cucumber while he has Jeffrey the Jellyfish tied behind him. On September 21st, 2012, YouTube[1] user Rizky Ramadhan uploaded the scene. The video received more than 83,000 views in nine years (shown below).
Spread
The scene first grew popular online as a reaction image. For example, on June 15th, 2015, DeviantArt [2] user darkfire8 uploaded a redraw of the scene where Patrick tied YouTuber Markiplier behind him while saying "Hero worship is unhealthy | C'mon Markiplier" (shown below, left). On September 15th, 2018, an unknown me.me[3] user uploaded an Object Labeling variation depicting a Redditor worshipping actor Keanu Reeves (shown below, center). On December 9th, 2019, Reddit[4] user shahkabra uploaded a one-panel edit of the meme to /r/BikiniBottomTwitter subreddit. The image received 521 upvotes in two years (shown below, right).
In May 2021, the format grew popular among Indonesian speakers on Facebook. For example, on May 15th, 2021, Facebook[5] user Aris uploaded the image showing Patrick with Shizuku Osaka from Love Live Nijigasaki . The image received more than 737 reactions and 789 shares (shown below, left). On the same day, Facebook[6] user Kevin Kaslana uploaded a variation showing Patrick with Hololive virtual youtuber Nakiri Ayame to HololiveID Fans group. The image received more than 698 reactions and 317 shares (shown below, right).
On May 16th, 2021, Facebook[7] page JoJo Bizzare Adventure Indonesia uploaded an image featuring Jolyne and Jotaro from JoJo's Bizzare Adventure. The image received more than 700 reactions and 144 shares (shown below, left). On May 18th, 2021, Facebook[8] page Sarkaz Base uploaded an image referencing Arknights. The image received more than 350 reactions and 94 shares (shown below, right).
