Hide Away Dance Trend refers to a viral TikTok dance challenge and trend that started in April 2024, which features Daya's 2015 song "Hide Away." The trend consists of one person dancing while their friends stand still waiting for their verse in the chorus "Where do the good boys go hide away" to start breaking down. The music also sparked ironic fandom memes, purposely mistaking Raini Rodriguez as the original singer of "Hide Away."

Origin

On October 29th, 2015, American singer Daya released the single "Hide Away" on her YouTube^[1] channel, which amassed over 18 million views and 176,000 likes in nine years.

The Hide Away dance trend started somewhere in early April 2024, most plausibly by TikTok^[2] user @famousnunu3rdpage on April 3rd, 2024. The creator was accompanied by @chris_gone_crazy and @FamousDebo, with each standing still while one person was doing the dance challenge (shown below), which amassed more than 24 million plays and 3.6 million likes in a month.

Throughout April 2024, the Hide Away dance trend was popularized on TikTok, with the original sound of the song^[3] accumulating over 100,000 videos on the platform. For example, on April 18th, 2024, TikTok^[4] user @jesiahetheart2 posted the dance challenge alongside a friend and a police officer (shown below, left), which amassed more than 11 million plays and1.9 million likes in two weeks.

During the same period the dance trend was going viral, ironic fandom memes crediting actress and singer Raini Rodriguez as the actual singer of "Hide Away" started to spread on TikTok.

For example, on May 1st, 2024, TikTok user @evaaasian^[5] posted a video congratulating Rodriguez for the success of the song, saying "She was always such a hard worker." The post (shown below, right) received more than 778,000 plays and 6,600 likes in two days.
