I Eat Bees is an exploitable video remix meme in which a person walks into a room and points to a spot, which then displays text. In the original, the text read "I eat bees." Variations on the format have altered the text.

Origin

On September 29th, 2017, Instagram user lylatcruise[1] uploaded a video in which he walks into a room and points to a spot, whereupon text appears that reads "I eat bees." The video gained over 8,400 views (YouTube embed shown below).

Spread

On November 3rd, 2017, lylatcruise[2] posted a variation which had the text read "I Love You." This gained over 22,000 views. The following day, he uploaded a blank version for others to make their own examples.[3] Exploitable variations soon followed. On November 6th, a compilation of edits was posted to YouTube by user CamSam62 (shown below, left). Another compilation edit was posted by Memehub the following day (shown below, right). They gained over 3,200 and 1,700 views, respectively.


By December, edits began appearing on Tumblr. For example, on December 10th, Tumblr user hebbes[4] uploaded a version featuring Cuphead, which gained over 6,700 notes (shown below). Meme Documentation covered the Tumblr spread of the meme on December 16th, 2017.[5]
