About:
iFunny1, the host of these specific late night memes, launched in 2011. This meme has been seen around the iFunny community nightly. It is posted from atleast 8 p.m to even 11 a.m the next day. The memes vary from user to user, but all involve the use of a quoted phrase mocking anyone asleep. Ex. "Its muh bedtime, i got skool." Most posts encourage users to republish their gif if they agree. If there had to be one thing in common with the "muh bedtime" memes, it would be the gif itself. The gif, as a tradition, must include a scene from Spongebob Squarepants. A most preferred gif would be of patrick sleeping or acting drowsy. These posts were popularized by well known users "_AdolfHitler" and "Devine_Feline" . They pioneered the long, over expressive gif captions with spongebob characters. Many other popular users have joined in on the trend also. Popular posters joining the trend include, but are by no means limited to – Legate, IsraeIite
RepubYourFavoriteSongs, Devine_Feline , JimmyLeNegroid, PoIiticaIIyIncorrect, and _AdolfHitler. These posts gave way to another meme, embracing the term "i guarantee you look like this" moving on to more than goodnight posts.
Origin:
The original meme itself was not a gif caption like has been popularized. The first ever instance of this copy pasta was from a user by the name of HUMANOID. It first appeared on April 15th, 2015. It was a picture of Patrick sleeping with the under caption "Lol if you're asleep I guarantee you look like this, fat fucking nerds. Chubby sleeping assholes "oh its passed me bedtime" hah. I hate every single on of my subs that is asleep right now like and repub if you do to.". The gif caption first started appearing in August 15th, 2016. Its popularity originated from "late night savages"2 posting gif captions of spongebob characters. These posts originated from the popular app "iFunny". This meme transitioned from people posting pictures about how you should not be asleep yet. This new trend not only encourages that you not be asleep, it criticizes anyone that is asleep.
Uses:
This meme is usually posted late at night. It can be used as a way for the poster to find out which subs are active. Most subscribers 3 will make a comment when they come across the post. This can also be used as a goodnight post. The user posts the meme just before they go to bed. As well, people use it in irony, posting it during the day. It is most commonly used to just let the subscribers know the poster is still awake.
