I Wish For World Clean refers to a tweet by the Twitter account for cleaning brand Mr. Clean which featured the text and a drawing of the company's bald mascot looking at a shooting star. The tweet spread several years after it was initially posted as it was shared by Twitter users who found the tweet cryptic and potentially ominous.
Origin
On September 4th, 2014, the Twitter account for Mr. Clean[1] posted "I wish for world clean" along with a drawing of the Mr. Clean mascot looking at a shooting star. The tweet gained over 12,000 retweets and 27,000 likes (shown below).
Spread
On July 14th, 2018, the tweet began spreading after user @Arachernaphobia[2] quote-tweeted it saying Mr. Clean looked like a Final Fantasy villain, gaining over 1,700 retweets and 6,300 likes (shown below, left). User @bartsimsonreal brought the tweet to its widest audience the following day with a tweet that gained over 39,000 retweets adn 150,000 likes (shown below, right).
Other Twitter users made jokes about the tweet characterizing Mr. Clean as nihilistic, oftentimes using quotes from pop culture. Twitter user @carolaverygrant tweeted a quote from Avengers: Infinity War gaining 90 retweets and 440 likes (shown below, left). User @pronemortalform tweeted "This is terrifyingly cryptic," gaining over 450 retweets and 2,100 likes (shown below, right). The Daily Dot[3] covered the tweet on the 16th.
