Ice Spice No Makeup is a viral selfie of rapper Ice Spice in which she is purportedly wearing no makeup. The selfie went viral in October 2023 and again in December 2023 as users on X (Twitter) shared and reacted to it, with some expressing shock or betrayal and others defending Ice Spice. It is unclear where the image came from, but appears to have been taken in 2021 when Ice Spice had pink, straight hair rather than her more well-known red, curly hair in the following years.

Origin

Memes about what Ice Spice might look like without makeup were posted online occasionally throughout 2023. For example, on August 11th, 2023, TikToker^[1] @tuckot posted a meme that gained over 5.7 million views in four months.

On October 19th, X^[2] user @scxrdvx posted a photo of Ice Spice, a photo of makeup-removing wipes and a photo that purportedly shows Ice Spice without makeup, writing, "Never gonna trust a woman who wears makeup ever again," garnering over 7,000 likes and 4,800 reposts in two months (shown below). It is unclear where the photo is from, however, it appears to be a selfie taken by Ice Spice due to the presence of her phone in the bottom left corner. It was likely taken around July 2021, when Ice Spice had pink, straight hair.^[3]

The image became the subject of reactions, largely through the post's quote-reposts. For example, on October 19th, 2023, X^[4] user @featurespice reposted it defending Ice Spice, writing, "she looks the same..? 😭" garnering over 95,000 likes in two months (shown below). On October 21st, Instagram^[5] page hoenest reposted a screenshot of the reply, garnering over 26,000 likes in the same span of time.

The photo resurfaced and went viral again on December 10th, when it was reposted by X^[6] user @yoxics with the caption, "Ice Spice no makeup on idk how to feel anymore 💔," garnering over 48,000 likes in two days. The image was reposted by X^[7] user @DailyLoud on December 11th, garnering over 108,000 likes in a day. The image inspired both positive and negative reactions on social media. That day, X^[8][9] users @WickedlyNFT and @Irunnia_ posted comments defending her that gained over 29,000 and 20,000 likes respectively in a day (shown below, left and right).

That day, TikToker^[10] @freekdagemini posted a video about the photo, largely defending Ice Spice, garnering over 520,000 views in a day (shown below).
