Origin

Ice Spice has been inserting scatological references into her lyrics since as early as her song "Been Bad (Freestyle)," released on April 3rd, 2021. In many cases, the references are symbolic or metaphorical. In "Been Bad," she raps, "I poo on a bitch, I'm shiesty," which, in this case, is a reference to the rapper Pooh Shiesty^[1] (shown below, left).

On May 16th, 2022, Ice Spice released "On The Radar," which features the lyrics, "I be fiendin' to dump on a bitch."^[2] In the January 20th, 2023, song "Actin A Smoochie" (shown below, right) she raps, "Shittin' on bitches, I do that (I do that), Shittin' on bitches my hobby (Huh)," seemingly using "shitting on" to reference disrespecting someone.^[3]

On July 21st, 2023, Ice Spice released the songs "Deli" and "Butterfly Ku," which feature the lyrics, "I'm the shit, I'm that bitch, I'm Miss Poopie" and "Shittin' on bitches, no potty (Grrah)," respectively.^[4][5] "Miss Poopie" has since been referenced in other Ice Spice songs as a nickname for the rapper.

On January 26th, 2024, Ice Spice released the song "Think U The Shit," which features the repeated lyrics, "Think you the shit, bitch? You not even the fart (Grrah)" (shown below).

On April 15th, Ice Spice posted a preview of her song "Gimmie a Light" to X,^[6] which features the lyrics, "I'm Miss Poopie like I need a diaper (Grrah)," garnering over 48,000 likes in three months. That day, X^[7] user @gwenisonline quote-reposted her, writing, "atp we gotta ask if she got a scat fetish cuz what is with the poop, diaper, and fart bars? plss iugyuukgmjh," garnering over 81,000 likes in three months.

On April 16th, 2024, Ice Spice responded to the post on X,^[8] writing, "I got a SHITTIN on b!tches fetish 😂," garnering over 37,000 likes in the same rough span of time (shown below).

The repeated scatological references became the further subject of discourse and memes throughout 2024. On April 18th, 2024, XXL^[9] reported on the exchange between Ice Spice and @gwenisoline.

On May 13th, TikToker^[10] @barmy posted a video referencing the lyrics, garnering over 50,000 views in two months (shown below, left). On June 16th, TikToker^[11] @thequeenofglam_ posted a similar skit that gained over 1.3 million views in a month (shown below, right).

On July 25th, 2024, the day before the release of her debut album Y2K, Rolling Stone^[12][13] published an interview with Ice Spice. In the piece they write, "Some listeners homed in on the track’s minimal lyrics and scatological subject matter," highlighting lyrical segments from "Fart" and "Gimmie a Light." About the lyrics, Ice Spice is quoted as saying:

"It’s so interesting how that took a turn. That’s one thing that I didn’t expect. The first time I introduced ‘Miss Poopie’ was on ‘Deli.’ I said: ‘I’m the shit, I’m that bitch, I’m Miss Poopie,’ right? It just means I like shitting on bitches, I like shitting on niggas. It’s just what I like to do. I be shitting."

That day, X^[14] user @aotshcr posted a screenshot of the quote from the interview, writing, "What planet am I on genuinely," garnering over 12,000 likes in a week.

On July 26th, X^[15][16] users @munch4spice and @notbigracks posted a screenshot of lyrics from Ice Spice's Y2K song "BB Belt," in which she raps, "I'm Miss Poopie, but I never smell," the latter writing, "she’s really gotta stop this shit tho," garnering over 77,000 and 122,000 likes respectively in five days (shown below).

On the same day, X^[17] user @DijahSB posted, "ice spice be like I’m ms poopie you think that I farted in the shit u know I just sharted u might shit but I poop the hardest shit on bitches I treat them like potty’s grah," garnering over 26,000 likes in five days. On July 27th, X^[18] user @CantEverDie made a post ironically praising Ice Spice for her poop lyrics, garnering over 3,000 likes in four days (shown below).

Also on July 26th, 2024, TikToker^[19] @mossrecovery_official posted a video about the scatological references in Ice Spice songs in which she dances to a parody of an Ice Spice song, garnering over 4 million views in four days (shown below). It was reposted by X^[20] user @K1NGFL that day, garnering over 20,000 likes in the same span of time.
