If I Text You X It Means or If I Send You X It Means, "X" being an emoji, is a phrasal template format that became popularized on Twitter In July 2022. The meme involves choosing a single or series of emojis to replace "X" and then explaining what the emoji combination means if sent to someone.
Origin
On July 8th, 2022, Twitter[1] user @Gsosaworld tweeted, "wen i text you '👥' bitch u gettin beside yoself LMFAOOO," gaining over 37,100 likes and 8,400 retweets in a month (shown below).

Spread
The tweet began to inspire new variations over the following days. On July 9th, Twitter[2] user @sideshow_buie92 posted, "When I text you '🎮' that means you need to stop playing with me." On July 10th, Twitter[3] user @jjaahz_ posted, "when i text you '🪗' it mean i’m finna start acting accordingly," gaining over 227,000 likes and 27,000 retweets in three weeks (shown below).

On July 10th, Twitter[4] user @apesgonewiild posted a version of the meme referencing Twilight and the Where The Hell Have You Been Loca meme, gaining over 304,000 likes and 45,000 retweets in three weeks. On July 13th, Twitter[5] user @Browtweaten posted a version of the meme referencing a scene from The Emperor's New Groove, gaining over 171,000 likes in three weeks (shown below). The meme was screenshotted and reposted to Facebook[6] a week later, gaining over 99,000 shares and 159,000 reactions.

On July 13th, Twitter[7] user @theryanprhodes posted a version of the meme using the Right In Front Of My Salad meme, gaining over 9,000 likes in three weeks. On July 14th, Instagram[8] page best_of_grindr reposted the meme, gaining over a million views and 77,000 likes in a similar span of time (shown below). The trend was reported on by websites including Distractify,[9] Mashable[10] and BuzzFeed[11] that month.

A variety of brands used the format as it gained popularity. For example, on July 26th, the YouTube Creators Twitter[12] account tweeted, "if i text you "🪐" it means my next video is about to be outta this world," gaining over 700 likes in a week.
