If It Was Written Like Helluva Boss or If It Was Written By Vivziepop is a series of memes using the phrasal template "If X was written like Helluva Boss" or "If X was written by VivziePop" where scenes from various TV shows, video games and movies are edited to add overt swearing and sexual jokes, meant to criticize the writing in the animated web series Helluva Boss, which features frequent language and sexually explicit jokes. The memes were popularized on sites including X (Twitter), TikTok and Reddit in November 2023.

Origin

On November 25th, 2023, X[1] user @MegaChanRevival posted an edit of a The Amazing Digital Circus clip adding more language and sexual jokes into the dialogue. The post was removed, but reuploaded by the user on November 27th, garnering over 46,000 likes in three days (shown below).

Spread

The meme spread over the following days, inspiring new variations. On November 28th, 2023, X[2] user @EmilioBurrito posted an edited SpongeBob SquarePants video titled, "spongebob if it was written by the helluva boss team," garnering over 9,800 likes in two days (shown below).

On the same day, X[3] user @McSpuddington posted a version of the meme about the game ULTRAKILL, garnering over890 likes in two days. It was also posted to /r/Ultrakill[4] garnering over 3,700 upvotes in two days. Later that day, u/townie27 made a post to /r/OutOfTheLoop[5] asking about the meme.

The meme became increasingly popular throughout December, with the phrasal template "if it was written by VivziePop," the creator of Helluva Boss, becoming more popular. On December 6th, X[6] user @sugarcollars posted an example of the meme that gained over 24,000 likes in a day (shown below).
