Kanye Is Golden Freddy, also known as Can I Have the Nitrus Today, refers to memes and jokes connecting rapper Kanye West with the character Golden Freddy from Five Nights At Freddy's. The memes were popularized by leaked iMessage chats shared on X / Twitter by Kanye's former Chief of Staff Milo Yiannopoulos, showing a purported conversation between Milo, Kanye's dentist Dr. Thomas Connelly and Kanye (aka "Ye"). Many internet users posted memes and jokes about how Kanye's contact photo in the iMessage conversation is Golden Freddy from Five Nights At Freddy's, and how Kanye followed up a message sent by Milo about the ill effects of nitrous oxide use by saying, "Can I have the Nitrus today." Yiannopoulos was seemingly inspired to use Golden Freddy as Ye's contact image after seeing a meme posted by the X account of the subreddit /r/GoodAssSub.

Origin

On August 7th, 2024, Kanye's former Chief of Staff Milo Yiannopoulos accused his dentist, Dr. Thomas Connelly, of supposedly supplying Ye with nitrous oxide to the point where Ye had suffered major brain damage.

After Dr. Connelly issued a statement denying all allegations of malpractice, Milo Yiannopoulos posted a screenshot^[1] and a screen recording^[2] of iMessage chats purportedly showing a conversation between him, Ye and Thomas Connelly. The chats allegedly show Connelly talking about how legalizing nitrous oxide needs to be a "long term goal," even as Milo warns against the detrimental effects of taking nitrous. Kanye then interjects, asking, "Can I have the Nitrus today."

After the X^[6] account @Kurrco reposted Yiannopoulos's iMessage recording on August 13th, various X users noted that Kanye's contact photo in the chats was Golden Freddy from the video game Five Nights At Freddy's, prompting reactions online (example shown below).

Precursor

On May 4th, 2024, the X^[3] account @GoodAssSub, a page that aggregates posts from a Kanye subreddit by the same name, posted an image of Golden Freddy with the caption, "'I think Ye delayed Vultures 2 because he knew the beef was about to go nuclear between Drizzy and K Dot! He is a genius!' Meanwhile Ye on Nitrous:" (seen below).

A June 7th post on the /r/GoodAssSub subreddit shows Redditors acknowledging that Milo Yiannopoulos has Golden Freddy as Kanye's contact photo.^[7]

Earlier posts that link Kanye with Five Nights At Freddy's include a February 7th, 2022, post on /r/Kanye^[4] in which Redditor /u/DegoEatingPancakes edited his albums to feature FNAF characters (example shown below, left). A March 3rd, 2022, post by Tumblr^[5] user @beardedmrbean showed Kanye's College Dropout photoshoot edited to look like a FNAF character (seen below, right).

On August 13th, 2024, X^[8] user @s3batr0nicYT cropped the iMessage conversation to highlight Kanye's "Can I have the Nitrus today" text as the punchline. The post was captioned, "I feel bad for laughing but like dude," gathering over 86,000 likes in a day (seen below, left).

Also on August 13th, X^[9] user @m4rgiela_m4n added Aqua Teen Hunger Force characters to the screenshot, gathering over 14,000 likes in a day (seen below, right).

Kanye Is Golden Freddy

Various X users posted memes about Kanye being Golden Freddy in August 2024, including X^[10] user @zep_excpoint, who drew art showing Golden Freddy saying, "Can I have the Nitrus today," on August 13th, 2024, and gathering over 8,000 likes in a day (seen below, left).

Also on August 13th, X^[11] user @FNaF_Funnies posted a This is MF DOOM meme that gathered over 1,000 likes in a day (seen below, right).

Later on August 13th, 2024, the X^[12] account @goldenscream posted a video of Kanye edited to look like the Golden Freddy Scream meme, gathering over 5,000 likes in a day (seen below).

Yiannopoulos made a post on X^[13] acknowledging the memes and crediting @GoodAssSub for inspiring him to use Golden Freddy as a profile picture for Kanye, gathering over 1,400 likes in a day (seen below).
