Kid Drawing Ambiguous Mountain Landscape Hoax refers to a photo depicting a boy holding up his drawing in a classroom that was edited and photoshopped to replace the artwork with an ambiguous mountain landscape that looks like a vagina. After the incident, the photo became an exploitable as various online users from communities began replacing the image with other pictures overlaid on his drawing. Typically, the images placed on top of the art are poorly drawn or humorous in nature, but sometimes they are also lewd.

Origin

On February 18th, 2020, Twitter user @arbainrambey shared the photo and claimed that they got it from a WhatsApp group (the tweet has since been deleted). Later that same day, another Twitter user "subtanyarl" reposted the tweet and added the caption "tanya rl. begini seharusnya anak jaman sekarang, kreatif. pemandangannya bagus.. eh,, bentar deh.. kok?? src om arbain" (also deleted). Twitter^[1] user @crystaIite then screenshoted the tweet before it disappeared, cursing people who edited the photo and uploaded the real, unaltered photo (shown below).

Spread

On February 18th, 2020, Facebook^[2] user Iwin Subali reposted the photo and compared it with the original. With caption "Demi berburu like 👍, sampe memfitnah karya anak2, kasian sianak bakal di bully disosmed." The post received 240 reactions and 158 comments (shown below). The next day, another Facebook^[3] user "Sa Nggu Ci" reposted the photo again. The post received 136 reactions and 244 reacts.

Debunking the Hoax

As the image continued to spread, many Indonesian social media users began protesting it, and on February 19th, 2020, the fact-checking fan page Indonesian Hoaxes^[4] debunked the photo and tagged it as "Hoax." The post received more than 500 reactions (shown below).

According to Turnbackhoax.id^[5]. The original photo comes from the Bandung Government site. In the original, the kid can be seen holding the drawing with two people running together while holding Indonesia's flag. Apparently, it's from a drawing tournament celebrating National Children Day that was held on August 16th, 2018, at Garuda Public Health Center, Bandung, West Java, Indonesia (shown below).

Apologizing

After the situation became controversial and upset many various online users, Twitter^[7] user @arbainrambey apologized after sharing the photo, claiming that he got the photo from his WhatsApp group chat (shown below).

Despite this, some Facebook users continued creating exploitable memes using the photo, but with safer, less lewd pictures instead. On February 19th, 2020, Facebook user Mamoru Chiba edited the drawing and replaced it with the infamous Bad Sasuke Drawing (shown below)^[6].
