This could be filed in the "Rickroll" thread or in the "Cake is a Lie" category. After the Gifford Children's Choir's video of Still Alive from the video game Portal went viral in March-April 2010, receiving over half a million hits the director promised to put up a better version as the camera job was very poor. Many viewers had asked for and were expecting the new and improved video. So the kids put up their rick roll video as the new version making the saying "The Cake is a Lie" true on a couple levels.
The escapist magazine's news editor Andy Chalk posted the choir's rick roll video as the new versionThe original "Still Alive" video was posted to G4TV's "The Feed", Kotaku, Geekologie, the front page of Digg, Reddit and YouTube. It was also written about by Andy Chalk in the escapist magazine The real new version was again posted to G4TV's "The Feed" along with 5 other Still Alive covers and was described this way: "We have saved the most unique version for last: an entire children’s voice choir performing a very pretty (and slightly creepy, considering the lyrics) rendition of “Still Alive” that makes me simultaneously think “what was that teacher thinking” and “why couldn’t my school have been this cool?” This rick roll has taken a dead meme and given it new life. It has met with mostly very positive comments and been enjoyed by those who despise the practice of rickrolling.
