About

Mamaguevo, digo glo glo glo or Mama Huevo refers to a viral YouTube video of a fish speaking in Spanish "mamaguevo," which is Venezuelan and Puerto Rican slang referring to a stupid person or an allusion to oral sex, with the literal meaning being closer to "sucker" or "doormat." The video went viral in April 2021, resurfacing as a viral sound meme on TikTok around June 2023.

Origin

While the exact origin of the meme is unclear, the earliest post was found on July 19th, 2019, when the YouTube[1] user @eliasmendoza9691 uploaded the video of a fish in the sea approaching the camera to say a Venezuelan and Puerto Rican expression "mamaguevo" and immediately after correcting himself by saying "glub glub glub." The video (shown below) garnered 580,000 views and 26,000 comments in four years.

Spread

The fish resurfaced on YouTube[2] in the form of 10-hour videos around March 2022, as user @scal4156 posted (shown below) on his channel. The video garnered 37,000 views and 732 likes in a year.

Another video featuring a Fortnite fish saying "Mamaguevo" went viral on TikTok. The post, uploaded by TikTok[3] user @gael.imagines on January 3rd, 2023, shows a red fish deep underwater approaching the camera in the same style as the original meme. The video (shown below) garnered 4.2 million plays and 763,000 likes in six months.
