Men Only Have 4 Moods is a TIkTok memes in which people act out the four supposed emotions and actions of men. The meme originally went viral on TikTok in July 2020, and an accompanying meme, Women Only Have 4 Moods, appeared in September 2020.

Origin

On July 23rd, 2020, TIkToker toborowitz posted the earliest known video, featuring four emotions: "clubbin," "pissed at mom," "hungry for that chicken" and "lookin' for bae." The post received more than 260,000 reactions and 1,000 comments in less than four months (shown below).

Spread

Throughout the summer, people continued to post variations on the meme. For example, on August 30th, 2020, TikToker @platebreaker posted a variation. The post received more than 173,000 likes and 1,000 comments in less than one month (shown below, left).

The following month, TikToker @benesherick created a since-deleted "Women Only Have 4 Moods" variant.[1] On September 8th, TikToker @itsbunny666 posted one of the earliest versions, which received more than 211,000 reactions and 3,000 comments in less than one month (shown below, center). These variants feature images of celebrity crushes the woman might have (example below, right).

As of September 2020, the #4moods hashtag has more than 15 million views.[2]
