Michael Rosen Describes X refers to a series of YouTube videos where clips from Michael Rosen's YouTube channel are used to react to various media properties, including movie, television and video game franchises. The first video like this was uploaded to YouTube in June 2021. The trend increased in 2022, peaking in July of that year.

Origin

On June 4th, 2021, YouTuber[1] Willy posted a video where Michael Rosen clips are edited next to images of each Metallica album to describe the poster's feelings towards each album, gaining over 432,000 views in a year (shown below).



Spread

Throughout 2022, YouTubers began uploading videos where Rosen reacts to other things, often albums, TV, movie and video game franchises. On April 3rd and 6th, 2022, YouTuber[2][3] CaptnHorror TTV posted versions of the meme where Rose reacts to the Hellraiser film franchise and Resident Evil video game franchise, gaining over 386,000 and 89,000 views respectively in four months (shown below, left and right).



On July 21st, YouTuber[4] Crack Bolt posted a video where Rose reacts to the Assassin's Creed games, gaining over 100,000 views in two weeks (shown below, left). On July 30th, YouTuber[5] Mortar2D posted a version of the meme where Rosen reacts to the seasons of Breaking Bad, gaining over 166,000 views in five days (shown below, right). On August 5th, YouTuber[6] Lessons In Meme Culture posted a video about the trend, gaining over 25,000 views in under a day.
