About
Monogamy vs. Polyamory Texts refers to an exploitable meme format that parodies a comic that compares text messages received by a monogamous person with one romantic partner to texts received by a polyamorous person with multiple partners. The image inspired parodies after it was shared to X / Twitter by user @ComfyGoddess in early September 2024. These parodies either changed the messages on the phones depicted in the comic or changed the person receiving and sending the texts.
Origin
Italian Instagram webcomic artist[1] @Els_comics first posted the comic showing texts received by a monogamous person vs. texts received by a polyamorous person sometime before July 15th, 2020, as indicated by a repost on that date by the Instagram[2] page @polyamory_awareness. The original post has been removed from @Els_Comics's Instagram page (repost shown below).

On September 3rd, 2024, X[3] user @ComfyGoddess reposted the comic, gathering over 1,600 likes and 2,000 quotes in one week. The post received a quote tweet from X[4] user @siteprotagonist, who wrote, "poly people are NOT waking up at 8 am," and gathered over 140,000 likes in a week.
Also on September 3rd, X[5] user @BambiAttack posted the earliest known parody of the comic, adding a homophobic slur in place of words like "sweetie," "honey" and "chubby."

 Spread
On September 5th, 2024, X[6] user @getfiscal posted a version of the meme in which the polyamorous person's phone was filled with texts about their partner's failing writing career, gathering over 6,000 likes in five days.

On September 7th, X[7] user @Dani6CBP posted a version of the meme showing "polyamory" texts being swapped for "Qing Dynasty" texts reading, "I think X is poisoning you." The post gathered over 3,000 likes in three days.

A September 7th, 2024, post on 4chan's /sci/ board[8] saw users discussing a version of the meme where the monogamous person receives messages about their polyamorous person having several wives who want to poison him.
