Overview

My Femboy Roommate is a simulation visual novel game that follows the life of a protagonist with their femboy roommate. A demo version of the slice-of-life game was launched by indie developer Nuteku in August 2024 and officially released for PC and Android in late October 2024. Online, the game amassed an array of memes and jokes in which people played My Femboy Roommate unironically, especially on TikTok, Reddit and YouTube.

History

On August 22nd, 2024, the independent game developer Nuteku^[1] released a demo version of the dating simulator game My Femboy Roommate, which follows the story of a person who just moved to a new town and shares an apartment with a new roommate, Robin.

On September 16th, 2024, a trailer of My Femboy Roommate was posted on YouTube^[2], which amassed more than 97,000 views and 408 likes in two months.

The game was published on Itch.io on October 26th, 2024 and it's available for PC and Android for $5.

Online Presence

After the dating simulator was released in October, it steadily grew a fanbase of streamers and players, who posted videos reviewing and playing the game. For instance, on October 30th, 2024, YouTuber^[3] Emanuel Tweek uploaded his gameplay of My Femboy Roommate (seen below), garnering roughly 12,000 views and 215 likes in two weeks

Memes

The game also became the subject of memes and fan art going into November 2024. For example, on November 16th, 2024, X^[4] user @Milkmeray posted a picture of themself comparing it to an illustration of My Femboy Roommate (seen below), writing "I look 1-1 like my Femboy roommate." The tweet received more than 2,300 likes and 63 reposts in two days.

On October 23rd, 2024, Redditor^[5] u/Silver-Apocalypse posted a screenshot of his Steam recommendation list (seen below), showing a banner of My Femboy Roommate, to which he wrote "I mean, You cant be playing one without the other." The post amassed over 1,900 upvotes and 175 likes in a month.
