Never Seen A Pregnant Asian Woman, also known as Never Seen a Pregnant Chinese Lady or Asian Women Lay Eggs, refers to a perception referenced in memes that Asian women who are actively pregnant don't exist and instead lay eggs or "spawn" children. Initially, the concept specifically centered on Chinese women but expanded to all Asian women later on. The concept trended in memes and other posts on Twitter and TikTok predominantly in 2021 and 2022 via Stitches and Duets made by pregnant Asian women who proved the theory wrong. It originates from multiple Reddit posts within the /r/AskReddit subreddit, starting in 2011.

Origin

On July 31st, 2011, a since-deleted Redditor posted to /r/AskReddit,^[1] "Has anyone ever seen a pregnant Chinese woman?" The post received an unknown amount of upvotes, however, it received seven comments that are still accessible. Roughly a year later, on May 7th, 2012, another since-deleted Redditor posted to /r/AskReddit,^[2] "Has anyone ever seen a pregnant asian?" gaining an unknown amount of upvotes but 10 comments that are still accessible.

On June 18th, 2012, another since-deleted Redditor asked /r/AskReddit^[3] about the "'Rule of Lauren"', which states all girls named Lauren are hot," further asking, "What ridiculous 'rules' do you follow?" and gaining over 755 upvotes and 5,200 comments. The top comment was posted by Redditor^[4] Giggledust on June 18th, which stated, "Asians lay eggs. Have you ever seen a pregnant Asian woman?" and gained roughly 1,400 upvotes in 10 years (shown below).

On July 9th, 2012, the concept was referenced again in an /r/AskReddit^[5] post. On October 30th, 2012, Twitter^[6] user miilkkk tweeted, "I've never actually seen a pregnant Asian," gaining over 380 likes in 10 years (shown below, left). On January 8th, 2014, Redditor AmiriteClyde posted a Shower Thought to /r/Showerthoughts,^[7] writing, "60% of the world population is Asian but I dont think I've ever seen a pregnant Asian woman in real life," gaining roughly 2,500 upvotes in eight years.

On July 29th, 2014, Twitter^[8] user YABOYYDEQUAN tweeted, "I've never seen a pregnant Asian I think Asian people just spawn like in Call of Duty," gaining over 1,000 likes in eight years (shown below, right). The tweet was then stolen by the Twitter^[9] account FillWerrell on July 31st, 2014, gaining over 2,000 likes.

The concept was reiterated in semi-viral tweets^[10] going into the 2020s, however, the concept took off en masse when it was adopted by TikTokers in early 2021. On February 28th, 2021, TikToker^[11] ffode1k raised the question to his followers, gaining roughly 311,300 plays and 50,900 likes in a year and a half (shown below, left).

Multiple Asian women TikTokers dueted and stitched ffode1k's video, showing that they were, in fact, pregnant. For instance, on March 5th, 2021, TikToker^[12] yingfromchina posted a stitch that received roughly 4.9 million plays and 1.3 million likes (shown below, right).

Various references to the concept surfaced on TikTok continuing into 2022 outside of stitches and duets, mostly referencing the same concept that originated from Reddit in 2011.
