Dr. Kim, also known as Dr. Ji-Hoon Kim, is a South Korean plastic surgeon whose videos went viral on TikTok in early 2024 because many thought his plastic surgery was bad or unnatural, centering on his face lifts that removed wrinkles and gave people a smooth appearance. Dr. Kim's videos were posted to the TikTok account @jiezou16 starting in mid-2023. The real doctor is purportedly Dr. Ji-Hoon Kim working at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital in Seoul, South Korea. Dr. Kim's most viral video showed a 51-year-old Spanish man whose face had been lifted and whose hairline had been restored. The video gained reactions and memes after it was reposted across social media platforms like Twitter / X in late January 2024.
Career
As of January 29th, 2024, the TikTok[1] account @jiezou16 has no bio. However, some of the account's earliest TikToks,[2][3] posted in mid-2023, have a watermark reading "KIM JIHOON." On August 19th, 2023, X[4] user @yoshikawachie posted a screenshot of @jiezou16's profile at the time, showing a WhatsApp number with a Chinese area code (+86) and a profile picture of a doctor (shown below, left). The picture aligns with a Dr. Ji-Hoon Kim at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital in Seoul, South Korea (shown below, right). [5]
In December 2021, a YouTube[6] video was posted by CloudHospital TV that featured Dr. Ji-Hoon Kim in which he discussed the difficulties of performing plastic surgery on patients, centering on eye and face procedures (shown below).
Following this, although it's unconfirmed, many theorized that Dr. Ji-Hoon Kim is likely the plastic surgeon posting to the TikTok[1] account @jiezou16.
Online Presence
Dr. Kim's earliest TikTok[2] on the account @jiezou16 was posted on June 16th, 2023, gaining over 190,100 plays and 1,000 likes in seven months. Dr. Kim's first largely viral TikTok[7] was posted on August 18th, gaining over 8.2 million plays and 154,800 likes in five months. The video is unembeddable, however, X[8] user @yoshikawachie reposted the video on August 19th (shown below).

Going into early 2024, Dr. Kim continued to post similar before-and-after videos to TikTok, such as a TikTok[9] uploaded on January 15th, 2024, showing a 51-year-old male Spanish patient, gaining roughly 7.3 million plays and 72,000 likes in two weeks (shown below)

Online Reactions
Dr. Kim's TikTok page received increased reactions and memes following the TikTok[9] posted on January 15th, 2024, regarding the 51-year-old male patient. For instance, on January 18th, X[10] user @getlikedevyn posted a screenshot of the video, captioning it, "he needs to sue that plastic surgeon omfg," gaining over 10.7 million views and 17,000 likes in 11 days (shown below, left).
Viral quotes were posted with the tweet, like one shared by X[11] user @willfulchaos on January 19th who used the Soldier's Face After Four Years of War template, gaining roughly 115,000 likes in 10 days (shown below, right).
On January 19th, 2024, TikToker[12] @lelethehero posted a video in which she raised concern over Dr. Kim's surgery, receiving roughly 1.9 million plays and 33,200 likes in 10 days (shown below, left).
On January 20th, TikToker[13] @doctoryoun also posted a video reacting to it, gaining over 24.4 million plays and 1.8 million likes in nine days (shown below, right).
