About

Nick Lutsko is a songwriter and performer known online for his humorous remixes and original songs. He first became known online for remixes of pre-existing videos, which he made for the website Super Deluxe, but he would later achieve success on Twitter and YouTube for his original parody and humor songs. This success has led him to official partnerships with the subjects of his parodies.

Online History

Lutsko's earliest recorded online presence is a banjo cover of "Skinny Love" by Bon Iver, which he posted to YouTube[1] on November 27, 2010. As of April 2022, it has over 140,000 views (shown below).

Super Deluxe

In 2016, Lutsko collaborated with Tim Heidecker and Vic Berger IV on "The Vic Berger Election Special: The Conventions", a series of videos satirizing the 2016 Republican National Convention for the website Super Deluxe. The videos have since been deleted after Super Deluxe, but led to Lutsko being hired by Super Deluxe.[2]

Lutsko's songs for Super Deluxe took their lyrics from pre-existing sources, and added music while Lutsko sang them to a melody, rather than using Auto-Tune to adjust the original words. This can be seen in an early example of Lutsko's work, "Emo Trump" (below), which was tweeted by Super Deluxe (now known as Tatered) on February 12th, 2017.[3] The video featured tweets from Donald Trump sung in the style of an early 2000s emo song. As of 2021, the tweet received over 59,000 likes, while Lutsko's video has been watched over 2 million times.

One of Lutsko's most popular works for Super Deluxe was "Jones Iver", otherwise known as "Folk Alex Jones" or "Alex Jones as an indie folk song", which was posted in July 2017.[4] "Jones Iver" took the words from Alex Jones' InfoWars broadcasts and sung them in the style of Bon Iver and other indie-folk musicians. A Tweet containing the song (below) has received over 33,000 retweets and 52,000 likes as of 2021. In addition, the video was nominated for a 2018 Webby Award. [5]

Solo Work

Super Deluxe was shut down by its parent company, Turner Communications, in 2018.[6] Afterwards, Lutsko began creating songs for his own social media presence. Among his most popular was "I Wanna Be At The RNC", written for the 2020 Republican National Convention. The song (below) was originally posted to Twitter on August 24, 2020,[7] and received over 9,000 retweets and 48,000 likes within a year.

Official Partnerships

In 2019, Lutsko wrote a song for Netflix to promote the release of El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie (shown below).

In 2020, after posting a comedy song (below, left) about being hired to promote Spirit Halloween, Lutsko was actually hired by Spirit Halloween[8] and created a second song (below, right) to promote them.
