About

Rucka Rucka Ali is an American rapper, radio personality, comedian, and satirical recording artist from West Bloomfield Township, Michigan. His work is often controversial, as it usually centres around racial stereotypes of many different races and groups.[1]

Online History

Early Notes

Rucka created his Myspace in 2006 where he posted his comedic raps garnering himself a fanbase, the account has been terminated on February 14, 2008 by Myspace moderators. He launched another Myspace[3] account a day later. Later in the year Rucka contacted MC Serch regarding an internship for a weekly radio program, after noticing his comedic humour and Myspace following Serch gave Rucka a segment on the show and asked him to write and record song parodies to be played on air. A week later Rucka produced "I Can Do Whatever I'm White"(spoof of T.I's "Whatever you like") which aired on radio. A music video has been made for the show(which can be viewed below).

Youtube Success

With the parody of "I Can Do Whatever I'm White" he turn his music direction to be a parody artist and produced other spoofs of popular songs to be played for radio program. MC Serch then invited Rucka to be part of his Youtube network, Serchlite TV, and upload future music songs/videos. Rucka's hit success in July of 2009 with his song "Ching Chang Chong", parody of Black Eyed Peas "Boom Boom Pow", based on Asian stereotypes. The video gained a quarter-million views a day before being removed by Youtube moderators for violating community guidelines for hate speech. A "censored" version of the song was uploaded with changes being eyes of Asian faces were black barred and Asian countries names bleeped out. That same month the channel was suspended, Ali has since uploaded new parodies to his personal channel(s).[5][6][7][8]

Controversy

YouTube Video Takedowns

Due to Ali offensive humour and racial stereotyping many of his videos were susceptible to takedowns and his channels terminated. Rucka addressed this issue in a three part song called "Me No Rikey Youtube" after his parody "Ching Chang Chong" was taken down, criticizing Youtube and asking his "Rucka's Nucka's" to upload the videos for him.

Video's of Ali's parodies were being reuploaded faster then they were being taken that Youtube decided to allow the videos to stay.

Probably Racist

On June 17, 2010 BBC News reported an incident where a Korean mother contacted the school when her son was mocked after a video played called "I'm a Korean" saying "It was making fun of Korean culture."The assistant headteacher regarded the video as "probably racist".[11] Rucka took offense to the article for "not giving credit" for the creator of the video and talk about a new album in the works, titled "Probably Racist".

McDonald's Incident

On November 20, 2013 the Huffington Post[12] and various other websites reported McDonald's played the Rucka Rucka Ali song "Only 17", a parody of Nelly's "Just A Dream", when a worker left their MP3 player connected to the sound system. McDonald's has issued an apology to the customers who were eating at the establishment at the time. Ali has also issued a response criticizing McDonald's as well as the patrons for their "lack of musical taste."
