WeRaceDiecast is a YouTube and TikTok channel devoted to videos of model diecast cars racing against each other on custom tracks. The channel saw viral success in April 2022 after uploading a race between toy figurines of Luigi and Shadow the Hedgehog.

History

WeRaceDiecast joined YouTube on May 10th, 2020,[1] but didn't upload its first video until September 2nd that year, gaining 1,700 views in nearly two years (shown below).


On September 6th, 2020, the channel uploaded its first video to TikTok, which saw significantly more success, gaining over 1.4 million views in roughly a year and a half (shown below).

Online Presence

Over the following two years, WeRaceDiecast continued uploading to YouTube and TikTok, though it has continued to see greater success on TikTok. As of April 28th, 2022, the channel has over 214,000 subscribers on TikTok[2] while the YouTube channel has 5,100 subscribers.[1] Most of the TikTok channel's most popular videos tend to feature tie-ins to pop culture. For example, a March 6th, 2022 upload featuring a race between cars modeled after those of Fast and Furious characters Dom Toretto and Brian O'Conner gained over 4.8 million views (shown below, left). A March 10th video showing a race between Cars characters Lightning McQueen and Cruz Ramirez gained over 3.6 million views (shown below, right).

Luigi vs. Shadow

The channel began seeing viral success outside of TikTok following an April 18th, 2022 upload showing a race between Luigi and Shadow the Hedgehog (shown below). The video gained over 4.8 million views in ten days on the platform.

On April 26th, Twitter user @paciofdd posted the video to Twitter, commenting on what appeared to be Luigi's shady tactics in the race. The tweet gained over 44,000 retweets and 286,000 likes (shown below).
