Pointing to Text or #YouShouldKnow refers to a series of TikTok videos in which a user walking into the room and points to a text, typically a mic drop statement, then walks away while the Yoshi's Island "Map Theme" plays.

Origin

On April, 7th, 2019, TikTok user @calebwardd uploaded a video that features a person pointing out the text "old town road sucks horse cock" to the Yoshi's Island "Map Theme" (shown below). The video gained 2,300 likes and 57 shares in three weeks.

Precursor: I Eat Bees

I Eat Bees is an exploitable video remix meme in which a person walks into a room and points to a spot, which then displays text. In the original, the text read "I eat bees." Variations on the format have altered the text. On September 29th, 2017, Instagram user lylatcruise[1] uploaded a video in which he walks into a room and points to a spot, whereupon text appears that reads "I eat bees." The video gained over 8,400 views (YouTube embed shown below, left). The audio is Yoshi's Island "Map Theme" composed by Koji Kondo (shown below, right).



Spread

April 12th, TikTok user uploaded the sound that has been used in over 1,300 posts in two weeks. The video uploaded features the text "I'm extremely lonely" and garnered 22,000 likes and 1,600 shares in two weeks.

On April 16th, @samjwilber used the sound in their own rendition featuring the text "pizza rolls are just itlian gushers" (shown below, left). April 19th, @wyatt posted an interation featuring the text, "Jesus wasn't white" which acumulated 19,800 likes and 580 shares in a week (shown below, center). On April 21st, @jennascott's post featured two texts, "Doyou like him?" and "or do you like the attention" (shown below, right). The video gained 21,000 likes and 1,500 shares in a day.
