About

Ring Doorbell Magic Trick refers to a video taken on a Ring doorbell camera of a man performing a simple magic trick, then leaning in close and saying, "magic." The video became the subject of edits on YouTube in December of 2020.

Origin

On November 25th, 2020, jakesterguy, who is known for his Ring doorbell videos, uploaded a video to TikTok [1] taken through a Ring video camera where he runs up to the door with a children's magic toy, which makes it appear as if a ball is disappearing when covered and uncovered again (shown below). He performs the trick for the camera, then gets extremely close to it and says, "magic," all while under an on-screen caption reading, "Proof We Live in a Simulation." The video gained over 19.8 million views in just over a month. On November 29th, Textile George re-uploaded the video to YouTube,[2] garnering over 1.2 million views in a month.

The video was re-uploaded to YouTube[4] by Cardi B cappin' on December 8th, garnering over 250,000 views in 20 days. He continued the series with another upload to TikTok[5] on December 1st, garnering over 873,000 views in under a month (shown below, right).
