Overview

The Shondo Mother Mocked Controversy refers to a dispute on Twitter/X over user @Thulxai mocking the VTuber Shondo's (Twitter/X handle is @fallenshadow_YT) dead mother. This led to various reactions, with some users praising Thulxai for angering Shondo's fanbase that is considered by many to be problematic, while others criticized Thulxai for what might be considered going too far.

Background

Shondo started her Twitter/X account on September 2017.^[1] She has a Twitch channel where she streams using her VTuber avatar.^[2] Additionally, Thulxai started her Twitter/X account on February 2021.

On March 12th, 2025, Shondo announced "no streams shadowmama is gone" meaning that her mother passed away.^[3] Later that day, it was revealed that her mother passed away due to suicide.^[4]

On April 19th, the Know Your Meme Twitter/X account made a post announcing the one-year anniversary of the "Anatomy of a Gamer" meme.^[5]

On April 20th, user @4nkpaked posted a clip of Shondo on stream saying words associated with Lolicon culture as a reply to Know Your Meme's tweet.^[6]

On April 21st, user @Dimememem quote-retweeted the clip, saying "i cannot fathom that theres real people who lower themselves to this degree just for monetary gain" This ratioed the original tweet, gaining over 150,000 likes.^[7]

Many users seen Shondo as problematic due to perceived pandering to Lolicons and normalizing pedophilia, which led to many users have a negative sentiment towards her. On April 22nd, user @Autolockon came to Shondo's defense, saying "She supports her entire family. You guys don't really know what you're talking about.^[8] Thulxai replied, "Her mother killed herself so clearly the support wasn't so great" This reply massively ratioed @Autolockon's reply, gaining over 80,000 likes.^[9]

Some users praised Thulxai's response. For example, user @NebsGoodTakes quote retweeted, saying "incredible tweet, singlehandedly destroyed the morally righteous, unoffendable, and carefree image that pedo twitter tried so hard to make for themselves."^[10]

Other users critiqued Thulxai. For example, user @tokulovr pointed out that Thulxai follows lolicon art accounts and raceplay accounts.^[11]
