Sileny Ota or Šílený Ota (Crazy Ota) is a viral video featuring a Czech student named Otakar Křížek (Ota) with a group of friends in their school gym.

Origin

The original clip of Sileny Ota was posted YouTube in June 2007^[1]. The video begins with the titular Ota yelling loudly at a friend. He is reportedly saying:

Do you wanna see how the madman looks like? This is how he looks like!

He then proceeds to run toward the wall behind him and jump into it, spinning completely sideways before falling down onto the floor. His friends proceed to laugh as he gets up and the video then ends. The video was filmed in 2005, and after receiving attention around Ota's school, his friend Daniel Kec uploaded the video to YouTube 2 years later. As of February 2021, the original video has received just over 4 million views, with subsequent reuploads receiving upwards of 45 million views.

The original video was incredibly popular in the Czech Republic, however did not start receiving western attention until in September of that same year, a user by the name of "dajermster" reuploaded it with an English title^[2]. Despite this increase in traction, the video would only gain worldwide attention the following year, when user "zomglolbg" would reupload the video with the title "If you watch this 100 times you'll still laugh !"^[3]. This upload of Sileny Ota would receive 45 million views as of February 2021. The video would gain widespread attention, receiving parodies and news articles detailing the success of the video. The video was quickly turned into a GIF and was used widespread across the internet.

Czecho Slovakia's Got Talent

Despite the media attention, Ota would never surface in mainstream media again until 2010 where he appeared of the Czech TV show Česko Slovensko má talent (Czecho Slovakia's Got Talent) from the international Got Talent franchise. He appeared on the first season of the show where he performed his viral talent for the judges^[4]. This was the last time Ota would be seen in media.
