About:
Penguin Dance is one of the earliest humour sites, featuring rows of dancing penguinds GIFs set to a sped-up sample of the song “chicken dance". The site became popular e-mail, blogs and weird websites directories.
Origin:
The original Penguin Dance website was created by Scott Barry who developed the two pages where the penguins dancing. In the late 90s the site was composed by one single web page and from 2001 more penguins was added in the first and in the second page.
From Linux to the Dancing Penguins:
From a Scott Barry article: "About 2 years ago hampsterdance.com got popular, and I starting getting into Linux. So, I registered the domain penguindance.com. Originally I just put up a few penguins on a ugly page and left it. A few months ago I noticed that the traffic on the site was incrediable (I never did any advertising) so I decided to revamp it and sell some products. There are a bunch of cooky people on there who post about penguins and stuff. I just let them have fun and every once in a while add some penguins or such."
Spread:
The Penguin Dance site began spreading through e-mail and newsgroups, with little mention before 2000. From 2002 the site was one of the most popular fun websites on the net.
The main slogan of PenguinDance.com is "The one, the only..Featuring the original penguin dance site". From 1999 online and it continues to serve the web community.
