/r/WhatIsMyCookieCutter is a subreddit community dedicated to posting cookie cutters in bizarre shapes and asking others what they think the cookie cutter could be in the shape of. In many posts, users will "guess" what the shape represents by drawing humorous sketches in the shape of the cookie cutter. The subreddit grew quickly, gaining over 239,000 subscribers in one year.

History

On December 8th, 2022, the subreddit /r/whatismycookingcutter[1] launched. Within a year, the subreddit amassed over 239,000 subscribers. The object of the subreddit is to ask others to guess what shape they think a cookie cutter is supposed to represent, and users can ask for serious or creative answers. As of December 7th, 2023, the top post on the subreddit was posted on November 24th, 2023 by TAshleyD616,[2] who showed off making a Human Centipede parody with her cookie cutter, gaining over 15,000 points in two weeks (shown below).

Many of the site's most popular posts are from November and December 2023, suggesting the site saw significant growth in that period.

Community

The community of /r/whatismycookiecutter will often draw possible guesses, sometimes humorous and sometimes serious, in the shape of the cookie cutters posted to the subreddit. For example, in the above "human centipede" post, user ThrillShow drew a sloth,[3] which turned out to be the correct guess (shown below, left). User Vosmology drew a bunny chewing bubble gum.[4]



Additionally, a group of commenters have stuck to suggesting that every cookie cutter is one specific thing, which has made "Rose" and "Wyoming" an in-joke in the subreddit (example meme shown below).

The subreddit has begun growing popular outside of Reddit, as some popular posts have inspired content on TikTok. For example, on November 16th, TikToker professorneil posted a TikTok about one of the posts on the subreddit, gaining over 4,500 likes in three weeks (shown below, left). On November 17th, user eli_orwhatever posted a TikTok about the same post, gaining over 64,000 likes in the same time frame (shown below, right).
