Sleeping Under a Carpet is an image macro series based on a piece of artwork by the artists known as Meatwreck. The image features a couple sleeping in an empty apartment under the carpet and is used to express living in poverty or feelings of love.

Origin

The image of the couple sleeping under a carpet was first presented at an exhibition in 2015. In the description, the gallery wrote, "meatwreck, #getaroom, 9800 opening night performance photo series on Instagram, 2015" (shown below).[1] The work is credited to Meatwreck, the art collective comprised of artists Derek Paul Boyle and Mitra Saboury.

The following year, the image was featured on a Naver.com blog post.[2]

On February 20th, 2018, Instagram [3] user @iz_dead posted the image on the website. The post received more than 60 likes in less than two years (shown below, left).

On April 9th, 2019, Twitter [4] user @lilss_migills posted the image with the caption "keep liking my tweets and we’re gonna end up like this." The post received more than 5,400 retweets and 23,000 likes in less than one month (shown below, right).
