Originating from the minds of filmmakers Mike Sardina and Stefanie McNeal, "…So We Can Be Safe" started out as a satire of the the children's television series Dora the Explorer. Starting out as an inside joke between a limited number of people, with variations like: "Seat Belts, So We Can Be Safe" and "Life Jackets, So We Can Be Safe", the joke later was expanded to add other objects that protect someone, or "Can Be Safe".
Variations of this inside joke range from the traditional "seat belt" or "life jackets" to the more abstract "flamethrowers", "RPG", and the newer "spartan laser".
