The tweet inspired numerous jokes and memes on the app after appearing in early April 2024.

On April 5th, 2024, Twitter / X user @sabrinawadeeee^[1] tweeted a video allegedly of a man getting attacked in Brooklyn, New York outside of a Nicki Minaj concert for slapping "random" women. The following day, Twitter user @teahot326^[2] reposted the clip with the text, "Straight man jumped in Gay City for refusing to twerk." Their tweet gained over 3,100 retweets and 7,400 likes in two days (shown below).

As the tweet spread, users added jokes based on teahot326's text. For example, on April 8th, 2024, Twitter user @Goodtweet_man^[3] mixed the tweet with the A Man Has Fallen Into The River In Lego City meme, gaining over 30 retweets and 620 likes in a matter of hours (shown below, left).
