Flying Gorilla is a mobile video game developed by Japanese company pinbit and released in 2015. In early August 2019, the video game achieved the status of a meme on Instagram, with edits based on the game footage posted by multiple users.
History
In 2015, Japanese game developer released mobile game Flying Gorilla (飛べ！ゴリラ-クソゲ) (2015 and 2019 versions of the game shown below).[1] The game allows the player to take a role of a T-posing gorilla flying above the surface of a river, with the player tasked to collect coins and dodge obstacles to reach further levels. While the game does not have an ending, player progress can be measured with unlocking a number of additional gorilla outfits and setting a high score.
Fandom
On August 1st, 2019, Instagram profile flying___gorilla was created. In the following days, the user posted multiple parody advertisements and other humorous videos about the game,[2][3] with many of the videos reposted by notable Instagram pages in the following days.[4]

In the following days, multiple Instagram users posted meme based on the footage from the game, including memes in which popular streamers were set to appear to be playing and reacting to the game. Notable examples include posts by Instagram users big.oof,[5] largetrap,[6] notkinghill[7] and frick.mp4.[8]
Reception
As of August 14th, 2019, Flying Gorilla maintained a 4.8 out of 5 rating on Google Play with over 3,300 reviews and a 4.9 out of 5 rating on App Store with over 7,000 reviews.[9][10] A significant number of joking reviews have been made by users, indicating that the majority of the reviewers might have been on the joke.
One of the most thoughtful and emotional games I have ever played. Never have I felt so much joy, as I am now able to fly as a Gorilla. Not only is the campain brilliantly crafted, but the endless mode is something all other games should look towards as comparison. My wife left me after I spent all our money gambling in the Gorilla Lottery, but jokes on her. I got a Golden Egg and now I can get a new Gorilla to lift to the skies. Thank you Flying Gorilla for making this absolute masterpiece.
My life was ruined. I had to get my left testicle removed because of the super rad tattoo that i homemade. So my wife left because she wanted to have kids. Then, a few days later, a homeless tetraplegic agressed me in the street and stole my 5€ i was saving for months. But its then that i discovered this app. It gave me the little force that i needed to go on with life. I am now a billionaire, and my ex-wife came back to me, so i crushed my right testicle and said "i thought you wanted kids".
i absolutely LOVED this Flying Gorilla™️, it is one of the best mobile games i have played, i'd even say it's one of the greatest games in general. The character designs and writing are some of the best, it really feels like you have connections with them. The story kept me really interested My name is Yoshikage Kira. I'm 33 years old. My house is in the northeast section of Morioh, where all the villas are, and I am not married.
