About

Heroes of Might and Magic, known as Might & Magic Heroes since 2011, is a series of fantasy turn-based strategy video games originally developed by New World Computing and later by Ubisoft. The series is best known for Heroes of Might and Magic III: The Restoration of Erathia, often regarded a cult classic. Might & Magic Heroes VII, the latest major installation in the series, was released on September 29th, 2015.

History

Heroes of Might and Magic series are an off-spin of Might and Magic franchise, an RPG video game series developed by American video game developer New World Computing since 1984.[1] New World Computing's 1990 video game King's Bounty is a spiritual predecessor of the series, featuring multiply gameplay mechanics and design elements which would later appear in Heroes of Might and Magic games. The game has been included in several Heroes of Might and Magic antilogies.

In September 1995, New World Computing released[2] Heroes of Might and Magic: A Strategic Quest. The game existed in the same continuity as Might and Magic RPG games, with the plot following the story of Lord Morglin Ironfist who flees his his homeland and finds himself in a strange uncharted land called Enroth, where he fights against the armies led by barbarian Lord Slayer, sorceress Queen Lamanda and warlock Lord Alamar, with the four rivals forming the four factions of the game.

The game features turn-based strategy gameplay, with the player tasked with exploring the territory outside his base (castle) and defeating groups of neutral and enemy creatures in combat. The player explores the map by moving his generals, referred to as heroes. The encounters take place on different maps divided into hexagonal, with creatures in player's and enemy's command able to move, attack and perform other actions (gameplay video shown below). Unlike the following games in the series, in Heroes of Might and Magic heroes do not participate in combat.
