About

Hot Wheels: Acceleracers, or often just shortened to Acceleracers, is a series of 3D CG animated movies by Mainframe Entertainment (now Rainmaker Studios) and Mattel released in 2005. It centers around two racing teams, the "Teku" and the "Metal Maniacs", as they participate in a set of dangerous races taking place inside different dimensions while against an army of robots called the "racing drones". It's a sequel to the 2003 film Hot Wheels: World Race (also made by Mainframe). [1] The series has gained a big fanbase thanks to its rather mature and dark writing and soundtrack.

Story overview

The story of Acceleracers starts two years after World Race, and it follows the two rival racing gangs, the Teku led by Nolo Pasaro (inspired by Japanese tuner car culture) and the Metal Maniacs led by Tork Maddox (inspired by Punk and Hell’s Angels biker culture), as they are both recruited by the enigmatic scientist Dr. Tezla to participate in a set of races against the racing drones, an army of robots led by the returning villain Gelorum inside of a set of dimensions called the racing realms (created by an interdimensional race of precursors called the accelerons). [2]

Origins

The series was produced and written by Ian Richter. Development on the series began in February 2004. [3] The first movie, Ignition, aired on Toonami on January 8th, 2005. The next movie, The Speed of Silence, aired on Toonami on March 19. The other two movies, breaking point and the Ultimate Race, would air on ”June 25th and October 1st, [4] respectively. After the release of the fourth movie, the series would come to an abrupt end due to a switch in Mattels internal, thus resulting in the series cancellation, [5] which as a result would leave the series unfinished. Prior to that, a total of 15 movies was planned. [6]

Fandom

After its cancellation, Acceleracers would build up an online fandom. A wiki would be created by fans on July 11, 2010, and a subreddit would also be made on May 24, 2012. Fans have created plenty of fan art about the characters of the series, and its status as unfinished has given birth to plenty of fanfiction seeking to give the series a decent continuation and finale. [7] some notable quotes from the series have become memes inside the fandom.

Hold it, Spinebuster's my car!

Hold it, Spinebuster's my car! Is a notable quote uttered by the character Mark Wylde in the second movie when his car is borrowed without his permission by Mitchell "Monkey" McClurg. It gained popularity after it was used repeatedly as a running gag on a YouTube poop. Its delivery and thick Boston accent led to it being adopted by the fandom as a gag uttered every time the car appears.

Remember Kadeem?

Remember Kadeem?
Is a quote uttered by the character Taro Kitano in the second movie rebutting Dr. Tezla for not putting an "E.D.R." (an emergency teleportation device) on the character's Kadeem's car? Despite the seriousness of that scene, the line is seen as humorous by fans, both due to its delivery and the fact that Taro was the one to leave Kadeem to his fate in the previous movie, thus making it come off as hypocritical.

Use the MEGABASS Kurt!

Use the MEGABASS Kurt refers to a scene in the third movie where the character Nolo Pasaro tells Kurt Wylde to use his car's installed "megabass" to cause an avalanche of rusted metal in order to get out of a difficult situation. This scene has been remixed with putting different music over the original or making it loader and turning it into ear rape.

Kadeem is gone

Kadeem is gone is a line spoken by the character Kadeem (now turned into a machine) near the end of the fourth movie. Its over-the-top delivery has resulted in it being quoted by fans a lot. The scene has been remixed a lot too.
