About

Llamas With Hats is a popular online animated series created by Jason Steele of FilmCow featuring the titular llamas, Paul and Carl, wearing hats. The sketches generally involve Paul accusing Carl of committing a monstrous crime.

History

The original Llamas With Hats episode was uploaded to YouTube on February 19th, 2009, gaining over 39 million views (shown below).

The series' second episode was posted December 21st, 2009, and gained over 20 million views (shown below, left). The third episode, posted September 3rd, 2010, gained over 14 million views (shown below, right). Episode 4 was posted December 15th, 2010 and also gained over 14 million views.

The series was revived in 2014 when Steele came up with an idea for an eight-episode story arc that took the series in a darker direction in which Paul is absent for most of the series and is replaced with a sentient mask who seems to be Carl's projection of Paul..[1] Episode 5 was released on March 27th, 2014 (shown below, left). On May 9th, 2015, the entire series was uploaded in one video by FilmCow, gaining over 17 million views (shown below, right).

Online Presence

The series became one of FilmCow's most popular. It has a dedicated page on TV Tropes and its own Wikia.[2] Steele posted an explanation of the series to FilmCow in February of 2015.[3] A Reddit[4] post about the final episode posted to /r/videos gained 440 points.
