FilmCow is an online video company started by Jason Steele[12], creator of the well-known animations Charlie the Unicorn and Llamas with Hats.[13] The company creates goofy animations and merchandise featuring the animations.

Online History

The FilmCow website was first launched in 2003 by FilmCow's producer Jason Steele and went through multiple significant design changes between then and 2011.[11]

Notable Developments

The company first became notable when they created the classic animation and meme: Charlie the Unicorn. The animation was mildly popular on Newgrounds,[2] but was massively popular when it was reuploaded to Youtube, where it gained over 26,503,000 views and 38,000 comments as of February 29th, 2016.[14] Other successful animations by FilmCow include Llamas With Hats and Marshmallow People, both well-known in the world of Internet animation.

Kickstarter

On November 5th, 2016, FilmCow created a Kickstarter campaign under the account Jason Steele[6] to fund a kickstarter for an hour-long film titled Detective Heart of America: The Final Freedom.[16] The Kickstarter was a success, raising its funding goal in just 4 days and going on to raise a total of $43,079 from 1,621 backers. The finished product was posted to YouTube on August 16th, 2015 and has gained 375,000 views as of April 10th, 2016 (shown below).

On February 23rd, 2016, another kickstarter was created to fund a 30-minute finale episode of the Charlie the Unicorn series. This too was a success, having raised a total of $209,247 from 3,997 backers, well-beyond its initially desired goal of $35,000.[1]

Online Presence

FilmCow has a significant online presence. The YouTube channel FilmCow, run under the username SecretAgentBob,[3] has accumulated over 1,383,000 subscribers and over 411,927,000 video views as of March 2016.[9] The official Facebook page for FilmCow has 34,000 likes,[8] and the Twitter account @FilmCow has 20,000 followers.[7] They are also present on Instagram using the handle @therealfilmcow, but they only have 659 followers there.[10] The official FilmCow site also has a store for merchandise.[15]

The series revolves around the adventures of a unicorn named Charlie and his two mischievous unicorn friends. It also has a spinoff called "charlie teh unicron."

Llamas with Hats
