About

Shake Hands With Danger is a workplace safety film that was released in September, 1979, by Centron and Caterpillar Inc.[1] The film gained a cult following online, and has inspired fan videos as well as remixes of the film's main song.

Origin

The film first appeared online on July 16th, 2002, when it was uploaded to Archive.org by Centron Productions.[2] The film (shown below) gained over 120,000 views.



The film was later re-uploaded to YouTube by A/V Geeks on January 3rd, 2013, (shown below), where it received over 4.4 million views in over nine years.



The film's main soundtrack is a country-styled song which is also titled "Shake Hands With Danger," which was composed by Jim Stringer, sung by Charles Oldfather, and with lyrics written by John Clifford.[4]

On January 3rd, 2009, nonserviam23 posted a music remix of the film on YouTube. The remix (shown below) received over 66,000 views in over thirteen years. On April 26th, 2016, D Cripps posted a parody video to YouTube which was inspired by the original film. The video (shown below) received over 330,000 views in over six years.



On February 7th, 2020, Denzel Curry posted the song Take_it_Back_v2 to YouTube, which uses music clips from the film. The video (shown below) received over 1.1 million views in over two years. On September 15th, 2021, RiffTrax posted a MST3K-styled commentary video of the film. The video (shown below) received over 90,000 views in over seven months.
