About

The Book of Boba Fett is a Disney+ original series that takes place after The Mandalorian and focuses on Boba Fett as he tries to find his place in the criminal underworld of the Star Wars universe.

History

Though a Boba Fett production was something planned for over a decade, there were several production issues that kept happening to either delay or outright cancel plans to do more with the character.[1] It wasn't until the end-credit sequence of the last episode from season two of The Mandalorian that The Book of Boba Fett was confirmed. This end credits scene was uploaded to YouTube[2] by the channel Star Wars Coffee on December 18th, 2020, where it received over 715,000 views in one year (shown below).

Online Presence

After the teaser during the finale of The Mandalorian in mid-December 2020, 11 months passed until more details were released about the Boba Fett series, with the official trailer launching on November 1st, 2021. This trailer showcased more of the scenery, plot and action sequences for the upcoming series. The trailer was uploaded to YouTube[3] by the official Star Wars channel, where it amassed 10 million views in one month (shown below).

The trailer generated additional hype online leading up to the show's release date in late December 2021. Most of the excitement came from the trailer showing many different alien types, something that was expressed as feeling left out of The Mandalorian by fans, as well as showing familiar settings and potentially returning characters from the Star Wars universe.

Deep Fake Luke Skywalker

Deep Fake Luke Skywalker refers to the AI-generated appearance of a young Luke Skywalker in The Book Of Boba Fett, which led to much debate within the Star Wars fandom about the merits of recreating a likeness of a forty-year-old character instead or recasting the role or using Mark Hamill, the actor who originally played Luke.

Knuckle Head HEAD @Knuckle_HeadTV I genuinely CANNOT believe that there are people complaining about this CGI. I can't wrap my head around it. This was literally Luke Skywalker. You find it 'horrifying' or don't want Star Wars or film/tv to go this route, you do you, but I am eating. it. up. My hero is back. John DiLillo ... @JohnDiLillo star wars fans rejecting mark hamill's finest performance in favor of a demonic robot simulacrum of his younger self feels like a real inflection point for the next fifty years of culture
