About

The Crow (2024 Reboot) refers to the third film adaptation of The Crow comic book, released in 2024 and starring Bill Skarsgard. This adaptation, a reboot of the franchise that was started with the original The Crow movie starring Brandon Lee, features the Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgard as The Crow, with many drawing similarities between the film's premise and John Wick.

Early Reactions

On February 28th, 2024, the magazine Vanity Fair had released the first images from the set of The Crow, featuring Skarsgard as the character Eric Draven, which quickly made waves online as first reactions to it were cold. With comparisons to Jared Leto's Joker, many fans of the original film were quick to decry the set photos, with the TikToker Danny Dank[1] summing up the fanbase's thoughts in a TikTok posted later that day (shown below).

History

On March 14th, 2024, the official Lionsgate channel released the trailer for the film on YouTube.[2] In the trailer, the premise is shown with the characters Eric and Shelly meeting, falling in love, and then their untimely and brutal deaths, prompting Eric to turn into The Crow. The rest of the trailer showcases several different action scenes, car sequences, and taking down a criminal underground organization, earning it over 1.3 million views in 10 hours (shown below).

Online Presence

After the release of the trailer, content creators started to share their Hot Takes on the trailer and guess about the film as a whole. Common grievances shared by the fanbase of the original and comic book adaptations were on the tone, or vibe, of the trailer as well as its similarity to John Wick as a revenge story and Jared Leto's Joker in character design. Later in the day, the YouTube[3] film reviewer Jeremy Jahns uploaded his initial reaction and summation of fan expectations in his video, earning over 110,000 views in three hours (shown below).
