About

The Screamer is an RPG game played in the first person and side-scrolling perspectives. It is set in a dark futuristic environment. The existence of a megalopolis called Beast City depends on a huge complex known as "Biological Intelligence in Artificial System" (sic), usually referred to as simply "BIAS". But recently, disturbances within BIAS have been reported. Apparently, dangerous creatures have gone rampant. Nobody dares to venture inside – except, naturally, the protagonist of this game… [1] The game gained its popularity as a meme in the later 2000s and early 2010s, mocked for its poor community translation.[2]

History

The Screamer was originally released in 1986 by ASCII Corporation in Japan. It was developed by MagicalZoo for the PC-98, later ported for the PC-88 and SharpX1.[1]

"DEHUMANIZE YOURSELF AND FACE TO BLOODSHED"

In 2011, a youtuber known by the name of CBoyardee released the third and last addition to a series of strange videos titled "Dilbert". "Dilbert 3" ended with the line "DEHUMANIZE YOURSELF AND FACE TO BLOODSHED" appearing across the screen. This line is from the exposition in the character creation screen of the translated version of The Screamer.
